Intro Squad

Intro Squad

The Intro squad is suited for young swimmers starting their squad journey. Swimmers are generally aged between 8 and 12 with no or limited previous squad experience. There are 2 one hour weeknight sessions available and swimmers are recommended to attend at least 1 of these however the best benefits will come from attending both sessions.

The intro squad provides a transition from swimming lessons into squad swimming, swimmers may also decide to participate in squad training and continue with swimming lessons simultaneously.

The aim for swimmers in the squad is for the legal completion of 25m and 50m distances of the 4 competitive strokes being Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle. The drill work at this level has a large emphasis on body position, providing a strong foundation for continued development of correct technique throughout the following squad levels. Swimmers will also be introduced to squad training skills such as dives and tumble turns.

The majority of the time the sessions will be conducted in squad format with the coach instructing from out of the water however should certain skills require manipulation by the coach they may choose to conduct the session from in the water similar to a swimming lesson.

Swimmers in the intro squad are recommended to attend Riverside club days entering races they feel comfortable with. Swimmers may also choose to attend target swim meets as directed by the coaches.
